Test
is an assessment which intends to measure students’ knowledge, skills,
aptitude, physical fitness, or classification in many other topics. A test may
be administered verbally, on paper, on a computer or a confined area that
require a test taker to physically perform a set of skills. While Standardized
test refers to any form of a test that requires all students to answer the same
questions, or a selection of questions from common bank of questions, in the
same way and that is scored in a standard or consistent manner, which makes it
possible to compare the relative performance of individual students or group of
students.
Teacher
made tests this are test constructed by Teacher according to what they teach in
the classroom. Teacher made test give teacher the
availability of easy assessment if their learner understood.
Standardize
tests are test which made by experts in the form of test that require all test
takers to answer the same selection to questions from common bank of questions
Example Form Two National Examinations which require all students Tanzanian to
answer that examinations
Teacher
made tests are more appropriate to the situation rather than the standardized
test because of the following reasons.
Help
teacher to understand goals and objective to be achieved. Through Teacher made
Test it is easy to make the evaluation goals and objective if understood
through the test which teacher constructing to the learner by looking on the attempted
answer from the learners if it is correct.
Help
to control over format, the teacher made test give teacher more options which
style to be used to construct the questions either multiple choice, short
answer, true and false while standardized test have one format to all students
through control over format can help teacher to evaluate their learner which
kind of questions have attempt good.
Integration
to instruction teacher made test give Teacher the option of choose whether what
to construct from the text book or provide another provide another alternative
like experiment, fiction book to reach course content, Also through alternative
method teacher will look student understand while mostly of standard text used
the text book to construct the examinations
Help
teacher to understand the progress of their learners through made test it give
the feedback to teacher if their leaner understand or not, because teacher can teach one topic and give
the test according to what he taught while standardized comprise the different
topic without knowing if have already covered or not.
It
encourages memorization to the students. When a teacher announces a test to the
students, then the students will be concentrating on studying hard targeting to
the test they have been announced by teacher. Also during a test when a student
trying to remind what he or she has studied before, so this makes long memory
among learners. (Mwamwenda, 2004)
The
teacher made test motivates learners in the sense that a teacher provides
feedback to the students which absolutely may increase performance to students particularly
to those who have done well because high performance motivates students.
(Thongo, et al, 2008)
It
evaluates skills and efficiency of the students. A teacher who constructs a
test for their learners intend to evaluate the ability of his or her learners,
this help teacher to immediately evaluate what learners have done in the given
test.
Teacher
made test helps a teacher to achieve the intended goals. Always teacher make
his own goal to his student, hence the test will help him to see whether he has
achieved or not after evaluating the students performance.
It
helps teacher to design a customized test that matches the learning goals and
contents of the class. The focus is at whole content or what covered in
classroom in order to make and increases performance of students. (Bloman, at
al, 2007)
Therefore,
in assessing the goals and objectives whether are achieved, the Teachers can
use the Teacher made Test because it carries the reality of the feedback from
the learners rather than standardized test.
